A New Perspective on Security – Being “Taken Care Of”
We live in a society that has taught us:
- to ‘work hard’ for what we want
- you don’t get something for nothing
- there’s no free lunch
- save for a ‘rainy day’
- don’t play until your work (chores) are done, etc.
Even in today’s culture, Men are still taught that their ‘worth’ or value is based on their income and how well they provide for their family. Women are taught to ‘catch’ a good man, i.e. someone who will provide for them. (And they better ‘look good enough’ to get a good one!)We are taught that to be ‘successful’ we need to
We are taught that to be ‘successful’ we need to
- Own our home
- Have money in the bank
- Drive a nice car
- Pay for our children’s college, etc.
There is a lot of pressure in our lives to achieve “success”.
I have basically been single and self supporting since I finished high school. I confess to sometimes dreaming of a “Prince Charming” to appear in my life and “take care of me” financially. Especially over the many years I have been self employed and have had no guarantee of income. It’s not just a matter of showing up to work and avoid getting fired – I have to constantly find new clients and students, provide services they are willing and able to pay for, etc.
Now, I have no complaints about being self employed – I LOVE the work I do, I LOVE my flexibility, my freedom and even if I didn’t need income, I would still be doing the same thing. I wouldnt trade this for anything! And still, there have been days when it all feels very stressful and uncertain.
As an enthusiastic practitioner of the Law of Attraction, I began to notice how counterproductive my stressful thoughts around my income were. In fact, the more I ‘worried’ about money, the more stressful things were!
I had a habit of looking ahead to see what expenses were coming up, and then looking at my class enrollments and client schedule to see if enough income was coming in time to meet my commitments. When there was enough projected income, I felt good, happy and joyful about my work. However, when I didn’t see enough coming in, I started feeling like I hadn’t done a good enough job, that perhaps I hadn’t worked hard enough, or ‘played’ too much, and it really took a toll on my quality of life!
What I discovered through my studies on the Law of Attraction, however, was that I was interpreting things all wrong! The basis of my error, was that I had assumed that it was my actions, rather than my thoughts and feelings (which affect my vibration of attraction) were what created the experiences and results in my life.
As I started practicing a new way of approaching things: noticing when I felt a little tension or anxiety around my income and then I would remind my self of all the times when my classes filled up unexpectedly, or when I suddenly had a full calendar of clients, or other times when I had more than enough each month to cover my expenses. And, this new approach began to WORK! In fact, I often get more calls from students or clients while I am taking a day at the beach, or on a trip visiting friends, or on a cruise… The less I ‘worried’ about money, the more consistently it would flow.
All this time, I have had my desire to not live with the constant stress of generating enough income, and to feel that I am “being taken care of” – and I finally am beginning to understand, that I am! – It is only when I worry and doubt that my needs are not easily met. When I relax and trust (in God – the Universe – Source) that I am always OK, the miracles truly flow!
There is no greater security as when I am able to believe that all I need to do is Ask, and it really IS Given!
